Karen Andersen is co-owner of Kushala Yoga, and co-director of their Teacher Training Program

Karen is known to be a yoga teacher, mother, wife, software developer, student, swimmer, kitchen bandit, and lover of Earth. She is grateful for all the opportunities life has presented and continues to explore the possibilities it presents.

During her twenties, she served as Director of Technology of a SaaS provider for the car rental industry. She first turned to yoga to help restore from the mental exhaustion of long, sedentary days of sitting at a desk. The mindful practices of yoga brought her to a deeper sense of embodiment by bringing awareness to feeling and movement.

In 2009, in a whirlwind of transformation, she left her full-time career in technology, took her 200-hour Teacher Training, and became co-owner of Kushala Yoga with Chris Dunphy. With a background in dance, she found it natural to choreograph movement sequences that feel good and expressive, from the inside out.

Over the past two decades, she has studied with, and owes inspiration to, teachers, including Michael Stone (dec.) and Clara Roberts-Oss. Karen is currently a student at SFU studying Behavioural Neuroscience. With her husband Chris, they hold together a busy home with three children, their dog Clover, and a vegetable garden. Everything is grounds for practice.

Karen is an E-RYT® 500 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) with Yoga Alliance.
