Karen Andersen is co-owner of Kushala Yoga and co-director of their Teacher Training Program

Karen is a yoga teacher, mother, neuroscientist, software developer, swimmer, and lover of the natural world. She is grateful for the opportunities life has offered so far… and continues to approach each new chapter with curiosity and openness.

In her twenties, Karen built her career in technology, spending long hours behind a desk. She turned to yoga to offset the mental strain and physical stagnation of that work, discovering how mindful movement could restore balance and bring her back into her body.

In 2009, Karen stepped away from her career in technology to complete her 200-hour Teacher Training at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga, then joined Chris Dunphy as co-owner of Kushala Yoga. She’s always been drawn to the language of movement, and yoga gave her a way to share it in a supportive, expressive, and accessible way.

Over the past two decades, Karen has studied with and drawn inspiration from many teachers, including Michael Stone and Clara Roberts-Oss. She recently completed her Bachelor of Science in Behavioural Neuroscience at Simon Fraser University. Together with her husband, Chris, she manages a lively home with three children, their dog Clover, cat Molly, and a productive vegetable garden. For Karen, everything is part of the practice.

Karen is an E-RYT® 500 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) and YACEP with Yoga Alliance.
