Yoga for Healthy Hips and Back
Pace: Gentle
In this class you will learn and practice a therapeutic approach towards healing acute and chronic back pain. This class is suitable for anyone who is frustrated with back pain; all ages and levels are welcome. Where back pain sufferers may not find general classes appropriate for their needs, this class provides a slow-paced, safe environment to accommodate healing therapies through yoga for each individual.
The hip joint is designed to be one of the most moveable joints in the body (a ball and socket joint) and have a remarkable natural range of motion. This range of motion may be gradually reduced by activity (or non-activity) patterns of your life, or suddenly through injury. Healthy hips are not just mobile, they are also stable and strong. They support and connect the movement of the legs, torso and spine, a big responsibility!
This class will take a gentle, therapeutic approach to increase the freedom of movement and stability of your hips. In developing healthier hips, you will bring greater ease to your body as a whole. Whether you are a runner seeking to release discomfort caused by compression or tension, or feel tight and weak from sitting for long periods of the day in a chair, this class is designed for a wide range of needs and all levels, with a specific focus: healthy hips.
You will learn to:
- find comfort in your body and release tension and compression in your hips and back
- prevent injury (e.g. the ability to bend over with ease from the hips instead of the waist)
- address misalignments
- create new movement patterns for healthier hips and back
- build a sequence of exercises you can take home and practice daily
