Come for an afternoon of bliss (ananda), with me (Sean), and embrace the art of Bhakti. This all levels asana class will focus on building community, friendship, and unconditional love for your neighbor. The twist will be the funky rhythms of reggae and dub filling the room with good vibrations.

Visionaries like Bob Marley and Peter Tosh had a heartfelt belief that all hate, inequality, and racism in the world could be cured through music. This one love mentality will be magnified through a series of group asana (poses) and partner assists. Everyone has an inborn natural desire to love, embrace and radiate happiness. So come groove, laugh, connect, share, and amplify your love for all people in the universe.

Thursday January 12th join writer, teacher and speaker Charles Eisenstein to explore Money, Gift, and Society in the Age of Transition

Money, Gift, and Society in the Age of Transition

Money today is the very antithesis of the sacred. The modern money system has contributed to alienation, competition, and scarcity, destroyed community, and necessitated endless growth. Today, these trends have reached their extreme – but in the wake of their collapse, we may find great opportunity to transition to a more connected, ecological, and sustainable way of being.

Tapping into a rich lineage of conventional and unconventional economic thought, Charles Eisenstein presents a vision that is original yet commonsense, radical yet gentle, and increasingly relevant as the crises of our civilization deepen.

In this talk, Charles Eisenstein will explain the forces driving the collapse of our current system, and lay out a vision of a new kind of money system that will replace it. Explore avant-garde concepts including negative-interest currencies, local currencies, resource-based economics, gift economies, and the restoration of the commons. Explore of way of living in accordance to your ideals in a world seemingly ruled by money. It is a vision already emerging today as institutions and individuals step deeper into transition.

This will be a mind-opening glimpse of solutions and new ideas for the future of money and economics – and how we can contribute to it and be part of the positive change.

“I consider Charles Eisenstein one of the up-and-coming great minds of our time. Rarely have I met a person who combines such philosophical and spiritual depth with such practical insights into the cultural and institutional origins of the potential terminal dysfunctions of modern society, and the potential solutions.”

“This brilliant and beautifully written book is an indispensable must-read for all those who believe our economic system is terminally sick and in need of radical, sacred rehaul. Charles Eisenstein has the great gift of being able to make complex ideas both thrilling and inspiring. I hope this book begins a serious, worldwide conversation on how we can reinvent our attitude to money.”
~ Andrew Harvey, author of The Hope: A Guide to Sacred Activism

“With his breadth of knowledge, enthusiasm, commitment, diligence, and sensitivity, Charles has become a beacon of hope for others. Your heart and mind will be opened by this treasure of a book that shines with wisdom of crucial importance to our troubled world today.”

“Brilliant and original, with great depth of insight and understanding, Eisenstein’s Ascent of Humanity easily ranks with the works of such giants of our age as David Bohm, Julian Jaynes, Jean Gebser, Whitehead. It is a profoundly serious, indeed somber portrait of our times, even as it opens a door of honest hope amidst the dark destiny we have woven about us. Accept the challenge of this major accomplishment and discover the light shining within it.”
~ Joseph Chilton Pearce, author of The Crack in the Cosmic Egg, Magical Child, Evolution’s End, and The Biology of Transcendence

“Quite marvelous, a hugely important work… This book is truly needed in this time of deepening crisis.”
~ John Zerzan, author of Future Primitive and Elements of Refusal

Drum Circle

Saturday, November 19th at 7:30pm

Create unity and rhythm at our Kushala Community Drum Circle. West African djembes and other percussion instruments provided, or bring your own hand drum. No experience necessary- just the willingness to get in the groove! Expect to play and move as you pick up basic patterns and strokes, and “the universal break”. Diana and Andrew Clark from Coastal Sound Music facilitate the drum circle.

According to Mickey Hart (Grateful Dead drummer): “The Drum Circle is a huge jam session. The ultimate goal is not precise rhythmic articulation or perfection of patterned structure, but the ability to entrain and reach the state of a group mind. It is built on cooperation in the groove, but with little reference to any classic styles. So this is a work in constant progress, a phenomenon of the new rhythm culture emerging here in the West.”

The drum circle is lead by Coastal Sound, singing programs that enrich lives, for preschoolers to adults.

Intro to Belly Dance Workshop

Saturday, November 19th at 4:30pm – 5:30pm

Free your body and move to universal rhythms through belly dancing. This art originated from the Middle East and other Arabic influenced regions many centuries ago. In this introductory 1-hour workshop, learn some of the basic movements and liberate your inner dancer! Lead by Nicole Roy, in her own words: “Life is a dance. Belly Dance is an expression of life. It calms the mind and soothes the soul even as its movement inspire the senses. It expresses the multiple dimensions of the feminine: passion and reserve, chaos and order, softness and strength.”

On Sunday July 17th join us for an evening with Alan Clements discussing "the yoga of freedom".

Awakening World Dharma – The Yoga of Freedom
The Art and Activism of Liberation Through Living

As part of the ongoing Dharma Series: The Art of Engaged Living, we are honored to have Alan Clements, a former Buddhist monk and author of the internationally acclaimed book, The Voice of Hope: Conversations with Burma’s Nobel Peace Laureate, Aung San Suu Kyi, offer a special presentation exploring Alan’s keynote topic:

World Dharma – an approach to spiritual transformation and higher human potentials that is unique to each individual, and evolved through the creative fusion of one’s yoga with meditation, activism, and spiritual practice.

At the heart of the World Dharma vision is what Alan calls “the yoga of freedom” or “finding liberation through living.” Alan is widely regarded as a spiritual maverick and one of the most innovative Dharma teachers today.

“World Dharma is about having the heart, awareness and wisdom to make every encounter an opportunity to awaken, liberate, and give; to love, touch and to be touched.”
- Alan Clements

Alan will also speak about his new book

A FUTURE TO BELIEVE IN – A GUIDE TO EMPOWERMENT,
REVOLUTION, ENVIRONMENTAL SANITY AND THE UNIVERSAL RIGHT TO BE FREE

“At a time when the contemporary spiritual landscape has become dangerously gentrified and domesticated,
Alan Clements restores us to our senses – wild and elemental. He summons the voices of those who, along
side him, have not traded their souls for the market-driven need to be tame or acceptable, and points us to the
wilderness of true, engaged, fiercely authentic awakening. This is why we are alive—to set freedom free, in
ourselves and for others, in every aspect of our lives from the most mundane daily task, to the most profound
political act.”
- Kelly Wendorf, author and editor Stories of Belonging
