Chris Dunphy

Chris Dunphy is co-owner of Kushala Yoga, and co-director of their Teacher Training Program
A lifelong athlete and movement enthusiast, Chris was drawn to yoga after years of physical wear and tear and the mental strain of working in the finance industry. Yoga quickly became a powerful source of healing, curiosity, and personal growth, eventually inspiring him to leave finance and help open Kushala Yoga (formerly Newport Yoga) in 2006.
Chris continues to study extensively and is deeply influenced by both traditional yoga practices and contemporary movement science. His recent studies include ELDOA Levels 1 & 2 for the spine, as well as training in strengthening the abdominals and thoracic diaphragm with world-renowned osteopath and physiotherapist Paul Sherman.
In Kushala’s Teacher Training Program, Chris teaches anatomy and physiology, asana, pranayama, teaching methodology, and the business of yoga.
Chris is a husband and father of three, and family life remains at the centre of his world. Outside the studio, he enjoys hockey, gardening, the outdoors, and continuing to learn about movement, health, and the human experience.
Chris’s teaching blends breathwork and meditation practices, modern anatomy, mindful movement, and humour. He is passionate about helping students move better, feel stronger, and connect more deeply to themselves through practice.
Chris is an E-RYT® 200 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) with Yoga Alliance.
